SHIMA  (HASEMAH ABU HAZIM)

Shima graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design, with major in Pottery and Ceramic from  MARA Institute of Technology in Shah Alam in 1986. She started her own business and did batik painting on fabric and other soft materials. She also took commission for painting, designing and the production of batik garments and accepted other artistic and creative engagements.

She venture in a variety media of artistic experimented with into  numerous technique in mix media on different surfaces.

In 1990 she decided to take the Entrepreneurial Development Program to help equip her entrepreneurial skill in order to enter the highly competitive art production and promotion business in Kuala Lumpur.

From 1993, Shima managed to broaden her artistic horizons when she was invited to participate in the promotion of art and culture activities organized by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism. Her works and demonstration batik painting brought her to Japan, South Korea, China, Macau, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Germany and London.

Shima also ventured into intaglio printmaking and incorporated a mixture of printmaking technique with collages and handmade paper.

Recently, her  art work mainly focus about traditional Malay houses in Landscape series and Contemporary Decorative Art series.Her works are available at KANTAN ART GALLERY, Artist Colony, Complex Craft Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Conlay, KL.

Artist Statement :

“The best part is feeling  alive while making paintings and the worst part is the need to make the paintings alive and meaningful”.
