Tropical Rainforests in the world are the great buildings of the various species of vegetation. In the moment, only a few thereof have been found or recognized usefully in many matters. In Malaysia, the source of Tropical Rainforest often associated with Lowland Forest and Dipterocarp Hill Forest, namely distribution areas of the various species of commercial timber country. Furthermore, there are also the types of forests such as Sea Swamp Forest, Peat Swamp Forest, Hill Forest and Ericaceous Mountain Forest. Each forest habitat has wood species that have potentiality and high value to various uses. Among them are including Dipterocarp species and other commercial species such as Merbau, Bitis, Nyatoh and Kempas. In the moment, the users on Tropical hardwoods sorts continued to increase. In 20 years, that is, from year 1970 to 1990, the levels of increasing in the use of wood were 13-fold in most importers of countries. The greater part of wood from Southeast Asia exported to Japan to be processed and then the wood sent to The United States.
Levels of logging in Malaysia are very high, for example, in the year 1977 there was 10 square kilometers every day. Although Malaysia Tropical Rainforest was found various types of trees that seem have an abundant supply of timber resources, but increasingly inadequate, due too often logging done. Since then, only then we are aware the forests that were once seen as cannot be spent, no longer able to provide enough wood although only for domestic markets.
To accommodate the usage of tropical hardwoods in Malaysia, various species of wood, that is, wood less known are being actively encouraged to be used. The species including Pauh Kijang (Irvingia malayana), Tempinis (Streblue elongatus) and Derum (Cratoxylum sp.). Besides those the small diameter timber such as Rubber wood also increased in use.
Sources of the timbers are many in use and are useful in all times. The result played an important role in the modern economy, based on forestry industries that have provided a lot of jobs and make a valuable international trade. In fact, in the early 1970s, sawn boards and timbers were the main exports of Malaysia. They have become a major case in terms of foreign currency exchange. Malaysia has been turning to the manufacture industries which based on wood, since some decades ago. It is in order to increase the value of wood export. As example of manufactures are vernier, plywood boards, remnant boards, furniture, etc. The main countries importing the wood products of Malaysia are Japan, Taiwan, Europe, Singapore and China. Among the names of wood suitable for the manufacture of furniture are, Kayu Kembang Semangkuk, Kayu Getah and Kayu Nyatoh. Wood names which imported from abroad such as Oak, Maple, Walnut, Mahogany and Teak, used as a mixture of materials to improve the qualities and met consumer taste. Moreover, hardwoods such as Meranti, Chengal, Merbau, Balau, Keruing, Resak, and Giam, are also used as building materials.
The wood is also used by local residents as the firewood on their daily life. Hence, the forests are very important for timber supply, which brought so many benefits to us.
